I’m a former SPD employee. In 2014, John Noland became chief and began started telling the cops his motto, “Thump, dump and book.” He also claimed that men were the cause of domestic violence 99 percent of Domestic Violence issues.
Several officers went to the Green Valley News with evidence that their reports were being changed, and the Green Valley News ignored them, and posted a story about how the officers were upset about a new report writing system. They told one officer that the were having issues getting reports from the department since John Noland became chief, and they didn’t want to anger him by going public with the officers claims, even with evidence.
Officers went to the governing board for police, Arizona P.O.S.T., who investigated after the fact, and told officers that since it wasn’t still happening, the case would be closed. As of 2020, approximately 90 percent of the officers (not all ranks) that were there when John Noland arrived in 2014 had retired, went to other agencies or quit, many due to the lack of credibility and dishonesty shown by command and the chief. Nobody seems to care what this command staff has done that sullied the name of the department.
I was just a lowly employee that watched in the shadows, and saw how the chief treated officers, creating a tremendous lack of morale. You can’t imagine what the command staff will do or how they will act in front of employees who keep their mouths closed.
