I grew up in asia and I know asians eat lots of tofu, soy milk, etc. There is lots of misinformation about soy from the Sally Fallon group. My guess is the soy phobia of Sally Fallon is probably funded by the animal products industry. Tofu and soymilk have lost most of the fiber of soy so it is better to eat whole soy or tempeh. All cultures cook probably bec. cooking allowed people to eat starches like cassava, taro, etc. which are not edible raw. Cassava needs to be processed to get rid of the cyanide. Cassava is eaten safely in many countries and is an important cheap staple. I am from the Philippines and there are rare cases of death by cassava. People have figured out ways to do artificial selection and to eat plants safely and most plants now promote longevity instead. Edible mushrooms if cooked also promote longevity altho there are still rare cases of deaths from poison mushrooms. I have tried eating raw garlic and it did burn my mouth and throat so I guess it is very effective at discouraging predators altho cooked garlic is easy to eat. Many vegetables and fruits have oxalates and it does not cause kidney stones in most people.
