It figures that this would be a logical step for Technocracy, but it totally reinforces what I have been saying for years: the Scientific Dictatorship is coming like a freight train. Here’s how it will work: A GPS unit installed in your vehicle will precisely track your travels. At the end of the month, you will be sent a tax bill for the miles you have driven. The tax rate on each bill will be customized based on computations made elsewhere about your overall “carbon footprint”. For instance, if your Smart Meter reports that you consume 20% more energy than your “allowance”, or if you drive a gas-guzzler instead of a hybrid car, then your highway tax will be much higher than your “eco-conscious” friends. Or, certain driving routes might simply be made off-limits for you if you have been a “bad boy” or “bad girl”.
What? You refuse to pay your tax invoice? Well, your car can just sit in your driveway until you do pay it – thanks to the remote kill-switch that will disable it.
